Nominating Agencies
The Commission is not sending out any hard copy application forms for 2011 as we request that all candidates who are being nominated for a Commonwealth Scholarship use our Electronic Application System (EAS). There are three options available to Agencies:
- to nominate candidates using the EAS
- to use the hard-copy of the EAS application form to nominate candidates
- to use your own application form to make your selections and then to ask only those candidates you are nominating, to complete the EAS form to be submitted to the Commission
Details of the different procedures can be seen in the table. The most important of which is that all candidates nominated to the Commission must have completed their EAS applications by 7 December 2010. Candidates, who submit to a university which then nominates to a national Agency, have to complete their application by an earlier deadline set by the national Agency.

Notes:
- Do allow referees time to complete references. Although the EAS sends an email to each referee with a link to the candidate’s application, the email is only sent when the candidate submits his/her application. So that if a candidate submits just before the deadline and if the Agency’s deadline for its candidates is the latest possible, the references may not be written in time to influence the Agency’s selection procedure. You may therefore want to have a deadline for receipt of applications that is earlier than 00:01 GMT on 08-Dec-10
- An Agency using its own application procedure to make its selections will want to give the selected candidates sufficient time to complete the EAS application form before the deadline of 00:01 GMT on 08-Dec-10
Agencies proposing to nominate using the EAS can see what is involved by looking at the guide http://www.cscuk.org.uk/docs/NA_Assessment5e.pdf. Although you can set the deadline for receipt of applications, the EAS Team will do this if you email the information together with the first and last name and email address of the Agency Contact. Support will be provided to Agencies using the EAS to nominate by means of email (eas@cscuk.org.uk), by phone and, as necessary, by co-browsing (in which the EAS Team can view the screen of the Agency needing help and can give advice)
The EAS asks the candidate to upload a scanned passport-size photograph, scanned transcripts, a scanned birth certificate and a scan of any offer letter received from a UK institution they have listed in their application form. In addition, the EAS puts the onus on the candidate to ensure that references are available.
The time to ask the CSCUK to run Pre-selection criteria on an Agency’s candidates is in the interval between the candidates’ deadline for submitting applications to the Agency and the Agency’s deadline for nominating. The results will be returned to the Agency within 48 hours as two lists in alphabetic order of the names of those with the highest scores; the first list will contain Doctoral candidates and the second Taught Masters candidates. The total number of names in the lists will be roughly five times the Agency’s quota for nominating. Requests should be made to eas@cscuk.org.uk
Although all candidates nominated to the Commission will have completed an EAS application, you are requested to send three hard-copies of every electronic application that is nominated to the Commission. No matter which option you take to nominate candidates, all Agencies are asked to confirm the names of their nominated candidate(s) by letter sent direct to the Commission in hard copy and by email to Deborah Bennett (deborah.bennett@cscuk.org.uk). The Commission's Selection Committees are particularly keen to understand your reasons for nominating your chosen candidate(s), and how these relate to your wider priorities, so please do give details of these in your letter.
