Scholarships to developed Commonwealth countries

Please note that the closing date has now passed for applications for Commonwealth Scholarships in the UK for 2010 so no further applications can be made.  We are not currently able to invite applications/nominations from developed Commonwealth countries for 2011 but will update this page when we are able to do so.  The detail is maintained below from 2010 for information only.

Commonwealth Scholarships for students from the developed Commonwealth to study in the United Kingdom in 2010 will be funded by the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).  These awards will be co-funded by selected UK Universities and these are detailed at the bottom of this page.

These Scholarships apply to candidates from Australia, The Bahamas, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Cyprus, Malta, New Zealand, and Singapore. There is a nominating agency for Commonwealth Scholarships in each Commonwealth country. Each year, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission writes to each agency asking for a specific number of nominations to be sent to it. Each agency is responsible for its own selection process, and in most cases will set a deadline date in the months preceding this.  All applications should be made through a candidate's local Agency in their home country and candidates must check with them before submitting an application to them, for specific advice on how to make an application and for their own closing dates for applications to reach them.

Contact details for these Agencies in the developed Commonwealth are listed here (PDF 70 KB)

Approximately 6-8 Scholarships will be awarded in 2010 for doctoral and split-site study only (split-site study is where the Commission supports one year's study in the United Kingdom as part of a doctorate being taken in the home country).
