The Commission supports mid-career academics from developing countries to spend periods of up to six months in a UK academic institution.
Nominations are made through specific developing country universities, who are responsible for advertising the awards. In the case of Bangladesh and India, they are made by the Universities Grants Committee of the country concerned. Sri Lanka nominates through the Ministry of Education and Pakistan through the Higher Education Commission.
Approximately 60-70 Fellowships are awarded each year.
Please note that nominations have now been received by the Commission for Academic Staff Fellowships in 2009 so it is not possible to make any further applications. Results will be communicated to the nominating Agency/University and to nominated candidates at the start of April.
Invitations for nominations for 2010 will be sent to Agencies/Universities by the end of July 2009 at which point the 2010 application form and prospectus will be made available on this Website and candidates will be able to apply through the nominating Agency/University in their home country.
The 2009 Prospectus and selection criteria are maintained below for information only but please be aware that these will change for 2010.
There are additional requirements for awards involving Clinical training in Medicine and Dentistry.
Nominations are invited to reach the Commission by 31st December each year.
Applications are considered according to the following selection criteria:
• Academic merit of the candidate
• The quality of the proposal
• The likely impact of the work on the development of the candidate’s
home country
