CSC Commissioners and staff have taken part in several overseas events in recent months. Dr John Kirkland, Executive Secretary, attended events in Nairobi, Kenya in February and in Harare, Zimbabwe in April.

Professor Tim Unwin, Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, was present at an alumni event in Lusaka, Zambia in May and met with key CSFP stakeholders and alumni in Ottawa, Canada in June.

Professor Unwin held an alumni reception on 25 November 2009, during the

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Alumnus Carol Holness from South Africa (Commonwealth Scholar, MSc Human Rights, LSE, 2008-2009) also attended CHOGM as the Commonwealth Scholars’ and Youth Representative at the Commonwealth Peoples’ Forum; Carol was the Youth Representative at the opening plenary along with the UN Assistant Secretary General, and participated in the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.  A full report from Carol appears in the June issue of CS News.
